I
The root of all thought is the dichotomy between heart and mind.
The heart experiences, the mind desires.
The heart’s hunger is valid (and it is an infinite hunger because it seeks the Infinite). The mind directs the heart to potential sources for meeting the hunger.
II
When the intellect is underdeveloped, the heart is completely indiscriminate. When the intellect is developed, the heart becomes more discriminative.
When the heart is underdeveloped the intellect is cruel. When the heart is developed, the intellect recognizes human consequences.
III
How can the dichotomy between heart and mind be dissolved?
The answer lies in the idea of service.
The act of service expands the heart.
The act of service refocuses the mind.
Until the mind and heart are one
Dedicated to the welfare of the other.
Such a heart-mind acts swiftly
Without fear. Intelligently. Without seeking.
Such a heart-mind lives in universal good.
It seeks no ethics. It demonstrates ethics.
