Consider this journey of a person
- The Primitive Mind is fearful, coping, engaged with nature as a mystical, unknown force that is shaping the human’s life. In this all knowledge is experience and memory. It is locally encoded practice.
- The Socialized Mind is safe, structured, routinized. Living in a bubble that protects against the unknown. Life is about pattern, tradition, ritual, and all knowledge is knowledge of pattern and how to conform to pattern.

- The Purposive Mind goes beyond “understanding” to “intervening” in the world. The purposive mind seeks to turn knowledge into a force for modifying, building, shaping society. It is this mind that leads to development of society.
- The Evolutionary Mind goes beyond intervening outside and seeks rather to transform itself (i.e., intervening within). In this knowledge which is subjective is the shape of knowledge which is objective.
- The Being Mind goes beyond seeking to intervene outside or inside, and instead seeks to dissolve the individual mind in the larger mind – the universal mind. In this mind, there is a recognition that it is the being or universal mind that is shaping both inside and outside. And is beyond both.
This describes the development of individuals, collectives, and humankind as a whole from primitive consciousness to a consciousness surrendered in the larger Universal Consciousness.
